Trotwood is a city in Montgomery County, Ohio. It was originally founded as Madison Township on March 7, 1809. In 1866, the town’s post office franchise was named Trotwood, after a character in the novel, “David Copperfield.” There would be a separate governing body in Trotwood, due to the strong economic development of the area, thanks to all of the new businesses cropping up. This entrepreneurial spirit would eventually lead to the rapid expansion of both Madison Township and Trotwood. In 1996, Madison Township and Trotwood became one, making Trotwood the second largest city in terms of area, and the fourth most populous in Montgomery County.
In more recent years, the town of Sheridan became better known for its string of successful high school football wins, with Sheridan High School winning Class 1A Indiana state championships in 1980, 1984, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1998, 2005, 2006 and 2007 – all under the direction of Indiana Hall of Fame coach Larry “Bud” Wright.
