Miamisburg, Ohio is a city found in Montgomery County and a part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Miamisburg was settled in the late 18th century by European-American settlers who originally called their community “Hole’s Station” after Zechariah Hole who arrived from Virginia with his family and built a stockade. The area started to expand in the early 19th century as more and more settlers started flooding in, mostly from Pennsylvania. By 1822, the unincorporated community had become a village, incorporated as a city in the 1920s. The Miami and Erie Canal was built through the community in the late 1820s, ultimately helping to greatly improve transportation of both people and goods through the area.

More recently, Miamisburg was known as the site of the one of the first post-war U.S. Atomic Energy Commission facilities, beginning in 1947. Before and during World War II, Dayton served as the location of many secre3t War Department operations—moving over to Miamisburg after the war, specifically to the Miamisburg Mound Laboratory, operated by the Monsanto Chemical Company. The role of the Mound Labs was to monitor ALL aspects of the U.S. nuclear defense stockpile. Production was halted at The Mound in 1993 by the U.S. Department of Energy. Miamisburg has also been home to the world headquarters of JatroDiesel, National City Mortgage Corporation and LexisNexis.
